Val Fonteyne was on his second stop in Detroit in '64-65 but didn't get a card to commemorate the occasion. Fonteyne had joined the league, with Detroit, as a rookie in 1959-60. In all, he played four years in Motown and helped the team reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1961. The New York Rangers claimed the hard-working winger in the 1963 Intra-League Draft . He formed an effective forward unit with Don Marshall and Vic Hadfield in 1963-64 but then found himself back in Detroit part way through the next season.
Bill Knibbs played most of the 1964-65 season, his first in the NHL, with the Boston Bruins. He scored 17 points in 53 games with the Bruins playing chiefly on a line with Reg Fleming and Wayne Rivers. After he failed to stick with Boston, Knibbs became a stalwart in the minors for the next decade before retiring in 1975. He would never have a card issued.
Wayne Maxner led the OHA in scoring in 1962-63 while with the Niagara Falls Flyers, a feeder team for the Boston Bruins. He was called to join the parent Bruins club for the 1964-65 season playing 54 games. The next season, he played just eight games before finishing the season in the Western Hockey League. The next time he made an NHL appearance, in 1980-81, it was as the
head coach of the Detroit Red Wings !! He never had a players card produced.
Garry Peters picked up his first handful of games in the NHL with the Canadiens during the '64-65 season before returning to the minors to close out the campaign. After that he was well traveled, with NHL stops in New York, Montreal again, Philadelphia and Boston followed by a WHA tour with The New York Raiders and New Jersey Knights. His '65-66 Topps RC shows him in a Ranger uniform, here is his Habs creation.
Allan Stanley, like Shack, had a long string of cards. His rookie appeared in the '51-52 Parkie set and his final was part of the '68-69 OPC set but no '65-66, until now.
