Paul Mulvey was a dominant force in junior hockey with the Portland Winter Hawks and was drafted by the Washington Capitals 20th overall in the 1978 NHL Draft. The large and intimidating Mulvey played a very physical game using his size and strength in combination with his excellent balance on his skates and puck handling ability. In his rookie season the year he played 55 games with the Capitals, scoring seven goals and four assists but was quickly falling into the trap of being known as a fighter more so than a complete hockey player. He would have a short NHL career, 255 games with stops in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh before retiring after spending the 1982-83 season in the NHL. He would never get a hockey card, here's his 1979-80 Capitals CTNW rookie creation.
Howard Walker signed with the Washington Capitals as a free agent after his highly-successful collegiate career with the University of North Dakota. While with the Fighting Sioux Walker was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team in 1979 and was then a WCHA First All-Star Team member as well as an NCAA West First All-American Team member in 1980, a year in which he helped lead the Sioux to their third National Championship. In 1980-81 he played just seven games in the minors as a rookie pro with the rest of his time spent in the NHL patrolling the Washington Capitals blue line. Walker contributed two goals and 11 assists in 64 games with Washington while registering an impressive +nine +/- rating. Despite his rookie success Walker Walker was limited to just 16 more NHL appearances before being traded to Calgary in June 1982. He played just three games with Calgary with the rest of his campaign spent with Colorado of the Central League. At the end of the season, with his career heading in the wrong direction, Howard Walker retired. His 1982-83 OPC rookie card was issued as a Flame, here is his 1981-82 CTNW Capitals rookie.
