The format was simple with eight games, four in each country, to see which nation really had the best hockey. Sounds pretty simple but this was 1972; the series would be played at the height of the Cold War and provoked intense feelings of nationalism among fans on both sides. It became so much more and almost any Canadian who is old enough can tell you exactly what he or she was doing on September 28, 1972, when Paul Henderson scored the 6-5 goal at 19:26 of the final period of the eighth game to earn the NHL a series victory.
The team chosen, besides coaches Harry Sinden and John Ferguson, had 35 NHL stars named to it. The 1972-73 OPC hockey set included a 28 player Team Canada Sub-set. Here are my CTNW creations to complete the set., no bios needed.
