He was on the 1955 Toronto Marlies Memorial Cup team and spent the next three years between the Leafs and their farm team in Rochester. The Red Wings claimed Aldcorn in 1959 and that season was his finest in the NHL. However, '60-61 saw him score only 2 goals in 49 games so they sent him off to finish the season in Boston. His 21 games with the Bruins would be his last NHL appearances. He had cards issued as a Leaf and a Red Wing but never as a Bruin.

He would only see 4 more NHL games, as a Montreal Canadien, until expansion came in 1967. That would earn him another 101 games with the L.A. Kings and St. Louis Blues before retiring in 1974. His rookie card was issued in the 1961-62 Topps set.

Don was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1967 Expansion Draft and played an important two-way role on the young club for two seasons before he was acquired by the New York Rangers. With the Rangers he would only get into 3 games before he joined his second expansion team in 1972 when he was claimed by the New York Islanders. He was one of the struggling club's most consistent players before being traded to the Minnesota North Stars late in the year. Blackburn joined the WHA's New England Whalers in 1973-74 and was an important playmaker and checker for 3seasons with the club. After all of that he never got his picture on a hockey card !!
