Larry Kwong was the first Chinese-Canadian to play in the NHL. Born in Vernon, B.C., he played with such well known western clubs as the Trail Smoke Eaters, Nanaimo Clippers and Red Deer Wheelers. In 1946-47, he came east and spent 2 seasons with the New York Rovers of the EHL. He would also make it into the New York Rangers line-up for one game in 1947-48, his entire NHL career. Following his time with the Rovers, Kwong played the next seven years with the QHL's Valleyfield Braves. He topped the 20-goal mark six times and led the Braves to the league championship in 1951. That year he was presented the Vimy Trophy as the most valuable player in the league. Kwong retired in 1958 after spending a year with the Nottingham Panthers of the British League. He would have cards issued in the '51-52 Laval Dairy set and the '52-53 St. Lawrence Sales set, here's his Rangers custom rookie in the '51-52 Parkie style.
Claude Provost also played with the Canadiens in '68-69, his 14th year in a Habs jersey. Following that season he was awarded the first-ever Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. He retired following the '69-70 season, also with Montreal. He had a card issued in the '69-70 OPC set but I had a request for one in his white Habs jersey.
Also created '69-70 style team cards for Boston, Montreal and Toronto, will post with front and back shots, the "checklist" includes my custom CTNW as well as the actual OPC and Topps cards for that year.
Thanks to Bruce Reed, Darryl Babineau, Bob Mooney and Onofrio Giammaria for their request that inspired these creations.
