Aledge "Baz" Bastien played 5 games as a Maple Leaf in 1945, the only NHL experience of his career. His life was marred by tragedy on 2 occasions. On September 30, 1949, at the Leafs training camp a puck struck his right eye. The damage to his eye was so severe that it needed to be removed and Bastien's playing career was over. He would return to the NHL as general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. His front office career and his life ended March 14, 1983 in a car crash that fractured his skull, the police report cited impaired driving as the cause. Bastien
